Extra Virgin Olive Oil Price in Pakistan: What Is a Fair Price?

Oct 22

When you search for extra virgin olive oil price in Pakistan, you're not really asking "how much?". You're asking "is this bottle genuinely extra virgin, and am I paying a fair amount for it?"

That's a fair question, because the words "extra virgin" on a label cost nothing to print. This guide explains what the grade actually requires, what a fair price pays for, and how to check a bottle before you buy.

What "extra virgin" actually means

Extra virgin is the top grade of olive oil. To qualify, the oil must be:

Extracted mechanically. Pressed or spun from olives, with no chemical solvents or refining.

Low in free acidity. Free acidity must be no more than 0.8%. This measures the oil's chemical quality, and has nothing to do with how sour it tastes.

Free of taste defects. Trained tasters check that the oil has no defects such as mustiness or rancidity, and that it has some fruitiness.

Oil that doesn't meet these standards must be sold under a lower grade. Because the grade depends on tests, not on how the label looks, price and paperwork matter.

A rough idea of extra virgin prices

Prices move with the exchange rate, import costs and harvest, so treat any range as a starting point. Based on current listings across Pakistani online shops and supermarkets, here is what extra virgin olive oil generally costs:

Size Typical price range
250 ml Rs. 1,400 – Rs. 2,200
500 ml Rs. 2,400 – Rs. 4,000
1 litre Rs. 4,000 – Rs. 6,500
3 litre tin Rs. 11,000 – Rs. 18,000

These are indicative ranges from current market listings. Premium imported brands can sit above this, and locally packed oils can sit below it.

What a fair extra virgin price pays for

Quality olives and careful production. Fresh, well-handled olives pressed soon after harvest cost more than bulk fruit.

Testing. Checking free acidity and other quality markers has a cost, which is part of the price of a genuine extra virgin.

Import costs and the exchange rate. Most extra virgin oil sold in Pakistan is imported, so shipping, duties and the dollar rate all appear in the shelf price.

Protective packaging. Dark glass and tins cost more than clear plastic, and protect the oil better.

Handling and storage. Oil kept cool and out of the sun until it reaches you holds its quality longer.

Compare per 100 ml, and only extra virgin to extra virgin

Divide the price by the volume and multiply by 100.

Example only: a 500 ml bottle at Rs. 2,500 is Rs. 500 per 100 ml, and a 1 litre bottle at Rs. 4,500 is Rs. 450 per 100 ml.

Compare only bottles of the same grade. A blend labelled "pure olive oil" is not an extra virgin, however similar the bottle looks.

Red flags on an extra virgin label

No date. A bottle with no harvest or best-before date tells you nothing about its age.

Clear bottle in a sunny window. Light damages olive oil, so a bottle that's sat in the sun may not match what it was at bottling.

A price far below every other extra virgin. It doesn't prove anything, but it's worth asking why before you buy.

No origin or packer. A good label says where the oil is from and who packed it.

"Pure" or "light" with no grade. These words are not extra virgin.

How to verify before you buy

Ask the seller for the grade as printed on the label, the harvest or best-before date, the origin, and a lab report if they have one. A seller who is confident in the oil will usually answer. Then check it yourself: fresh extra virgin smells green and fruity, and often leaves a slightly peppery tickle at the back of the throat. The fridge test is not a reliable way to judge quality, so don't rely on it.

Where Zaitoon extra virgin olive oil fits

We import our olive oil and pack it in Lahore, which means fewer steps between us and your kitchen. Our Zaitoon extra virgin olive oil is cold-pressed, halal certified, and sold as 100% extra virgin olive oil with nothing added.

Here are the current prices and the price per 100 ml, so you can compare sizes fairly:

Size Price Price per 100 ml
250 ml Rs. 1,580 Rs. 632
500 ml Rs. 2,850 Rs. 570
1 litre Rs. 4,250 Rs. 425

The 1 litre bottle is the best value per 100 ml. The 500 ml is a practical middle size for a household that cooks with olive oil most days—enough to last a month or more without the risk of a large bottle going stale. The 250 ml is a sensible starting point if you're trying the oil for the first time or use it mainly for drizzling.

If you fry often and want a neutral oil for higher heat, our Extra Light 1 litre is Rs. 3,680 and is built for everyday cooking.

FAQs

What is the price of extra virgin olive oil in Pakistan?
It depends on size, origin and brand. Across Pakistani shops and online stores, extra virgin typically sells in the low-to-mid thousands of rupees per litre, with premium imported brands costing more. Our own Extra Virgin starts at Rs. 1,580 for 250 ml and goes up to Rs. 4,250 for 1 litre.

Why is extra virgin olive oil more expensive than regular olive oil?
It's made mechanically with no refining, has to pass quality tests, and is usually imported—so the price includes testing, shipping and import costs.

What does extra virgin mean on a label?
It's the top grade, made by mechanical means only, with free acidity of no more than 0.8% and no taste defects.

How can I tell if extra virgin olive oil is genuine?
Check the grade, the date, the packaging, the origin and the seller, and ask for a lab report. Fresh oil smells fruity and often tastes slightly peppery. Be careful with prices far below the rest.

Is a bigger bottle better value?
It's cheaper per millilitre, but only if you finish it before it loses freshness. An open bottle is best used within a few months.
