Mango is the fruit Pakistan is famous for, so mango jam is often the first flavour people reach for. But walk through a shop and the jars look very different in price, and they all say "mango" on the front.
Here's what mango jam costs in Pakistan, what drives the price, and what to check before you buy.
Why mango jam prices vary so much
A 200 g jar from one brand can cost several times what another brand charges for the same size. Imported jars usually cost more than locally made ones, because import costs and the exchange rate affect the shelf price. Smaller jars also cost more per gram than larger ones.
Rather than hunting for a "normal" price, compare jars by price per 100 g and by what's actually inside. For a broader look at the market, see our guide to fruit jam price in Pakistan.
What affects the price of mango jam
1. How much mango is in the jar. A jam made with real mango pulp costs more to produce than one that's mostly sugar and flavouring. The ingredient list shows which one you're buying.
2. The season and the harvest. Mango is a seasonal fruit, so the cost of the raw fruit changes through the year. Pakistan grows well-known varieties such as Sindhri and Chaunsa, and a poor season can raise prices.
3. Local or imported. A jam produced in Pakistan avoids import duties and shipping. An imported jar carries those costs, and exchange rates move its price too.
4. The packaging. A sealed glass jar costs more than a plastic tub or sachet, and protects the jam better.
5. The size. Larger jars cost less per 100 g, but only help if you finish them after opening.
6. The brand and the sales channel. Every step between the maker and your kitchen adds to the price.
How to compare mango jam prices fairly: price per 100 g
Jar sizes vary, so comparing the sticker price misleads. Divide the price by the weight in grams and multiply by 100.
Using our own price: a 200 g jar of Mango Jam at Rs 275 costs Rs 137.50 per 100 g. The 400 g jar works out cheaper per 100 g; the current price is on the product page.
Compare jars with the same kind of ingredients, such as mango pulp jam with mango pulp jam. A cheap jar that's mostly syrup isn't comparable.
What to check on a mango jam label
The first ingredient. Mango or mango pulp should come first. If sugar leads the list, the jar is mostly sugar.
The whole ingredient list. Look for preservatives, colour and flavouring. Most commercial jams contain a preservative, and a good seller tells you so and names it.
The nutrition panel. Jam is a sweet spread, so expect it to be high in sugar. Compare per 100 g.
The colour and texture. Real mango pulp jam has body and a natural golden-orange colour. A neon yellow shade and a clear, glassy gel suggest added colour and thickeners.
The maker and the date. Look for a best-before date, and a seller with an address and phone number.

When a low price should make you cautious
A cheap mango jam isn't automatically poor. But if the price is far below the others and the label says "real mango", check the ingredient list. If sugar or syrup comes first, the fruit content is probably low.
When a higher price is worth it
If you want a jam that actually tastes like mango, a pulp-based jam is worth paying a little more for. A thin layer goes further on toast or paratha when the flavour is strong.
How to use mango jam
Toast and bread. A thin layer on warm toast is the simplest.
Paratha. A spoonful rolled into a hot paratha makes breakfast sweet and savoury at once.
Yoghurt and oats. Stir a spoonful in for mango flavour out of season.
Baking. Use it between cake layers or as a pastry filling.
How to store mango jam
Keep the sealed jar at room temperature. After opening, refrigerate it and use it within the period printed on the label.
Value tips
Choose a size you'll finish. A smaller jar you finish is better value than a large one that goes to waste.
Check delivery costs. The shelf price isn't always the total. Look at delivery charges and whether cash on delivery is available.
Compare per 100 g. It's the only fair way to compare jars of different sizes.
